Director of the Center

Director: Liyuan Chai

Liyuan Chai graduated from Central South University of Technology and received the doctoral degree of non-ferrous metallurgy in 1997.Chai is a professor at Central South University. He is the awardee of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Changjiang Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education. He is the dean of School of metallurgy and environment, director of the Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control & Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution, and director of State Environmental Protection Engineer Center for Pollution Control of Nonferrous Metal Industry.

 

His researches focus on the heavy metal emission reduction and resouce recycling. He led more than 50 major national research projects, published 157 papers indexed by SCI and 80 invention patents. The technology "Advanced Treatment and Reuse of Wastewater Containing Heavy Metals by Biologics" was awarded the Second Prize of State Technological Invention Award. This technology is widely applied in non-ferrous metallurgical industries.

 

Vice Director: Xiaobo Min

Xiaobo Min is a professor at Central South University. Prof. Min was supported by the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education. He is a member of professor committee in School of metallurgy and Environment, CSU. He is also the vice director of Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control& Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution, and the vice director of the State Environmental Protection Nonferrous Metals Industrial Pollution Control Engineering Center. Prof. Min received his doctoral degree of non-ferrous metallurgy from Central South University in 2000 and was a visiting scholar in Japan. His main research areas include non-ferrous industrial wastewater treatment,industrial solid waste recycling and control, and clean production technology. He led more than 10 major national research projects, published 67 papers indexed by SCI and 15 invention patents. Prof. Min obtained two Second Awards of State Technological Invention Award, four First Awards and one Third Class Awards of provincial science and technology program.  

Vice Director: Zhihui Yang

Zhihui Yang is a professor at Central South University. Her research areas include remediation techniques for heavy metal contaminated soil, treatment and resource utilization of solid waste containing heavy metals. Prof. Yang is the vice director of Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control& Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution. Prof. Yang received her Ph.D. degrees in soil science at Norwegian University of Life Sciences and in crop planting and cultivation at Hunan Agricultural University, respectively. She then went to Institute of Soil Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and the Federal Republic of Germany Agricultural Research Institute as visiting scholar. She led more than 10 programs and published more than 50 research papers, including more than 40 papers indexed by SCI. More than 10 patents were granted.
